How to Shoot and Edit Senior Night Photos
Senior night is a big deal for athletes and families, and the photos get shared and printed for years. Here's how to shoot and edit them well.
Shooting
- Arrive early for posed shots before the crowd and warm-ups
- Shoot the details — flowers, posters, jersey numbers, parents' faces
- Use a fast lens (f/2.8 or wider) for the dim gym and to separate the subject
- Get the walk-out and the hug — those are the keepers
Editing
Senior night usually wants a warmer, slightly nostalgic look, not something clinical. A preset like La Salle gives a warm, film-inspired tone with a soft matte finish that flatters skin and team colors.
Steps: correct white balance, lift shadows to open faces, apply the preset, then fine-tune exposure per frame and copy across the set. See the gym lighting guide if the color cast is bad.
Delivering
Give families a mix: a few edited hero shots fast (same night if you can), then the full gallery within a week. Export web-sized for sharing and full-resolution for prints.
